Each season brings a different side of North Carolina to life.

Spring: Campus Blooms & Wildflowers

March–May is the most photogenic season. Sarah P. Duke Gardens peak with azaleas and cherry blossoms. The Blue Ridge Parkway is carpeted with rhododendron. UNC's campus glows with spring color, making it perfect for campus visits and photo walks.

Summer: Beaches, Lighthouses & Water

June–August means the Outer Banks, Crystal Coast and Wilmington beaches are at their finest. Warm Atlantic waters, surf lessons, kayaking, and wild horses on the barrier islands. The mountains offer cool, green relief from the heat.

Fall: Foliage, Football & Festivals

September–November is peak NC. The Blue Ridge Parkway turns into a corridor of gold and crimson. ACC football fills stadiums at UNC, Duke and NC State. Boone and Asheville host harvest festivals. The best time for a campus road trip.

Winter: Skiing, Biltmore & Quiet Beaches

December–February brings magic to NC. The Biltmore Estate glows with Christmas décor. Ski resorts open in the High Country around Boone and Banner Elk. The coast is quiet and serene — great for birding and solitude.
